Christmas Mulled Wine Recipe
The ingredients used in this recipe can be tweaked to suite your individual tastes, but in principal you will need the following:
One 750ml bottle of full bodied red, such as a Merlot
A generous splash of brandy (I use around 150ml but to your taste)
One sliced orange (you may wish to remove the peel as this can be bitter)
A pinch of orange zest
Approximately 200ml of freshly squeezed orange juice (you can use cranberry juice)
8 cloves
2 heaped tablespoons of brown sugar
3 cinnamon sticks (or a teaspoon of ground cinnamon)
2 teaspoons of ground ginger
Place all the ingredients to one big pan and warm up very slowly. Avoid boiling as the alcohol will disappear and thats no use to anyone! Stir regularly and ensure all the sugar had dissolved and that all the flavours have infused throughout the mixture. The heating process will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes and when complete; ladle out the cocktail into glasses with a slice of lemon. Enjoy!
