Robin Starkey, Shanklin Jewellers

Robin and Imogen Starkey welcome you to Shanklin Jewellers. Robin won an
award for the ‘vine leaf’ ring at the prestigious Goldsmiths’ Craft and
Design Council Awards 2009, held at Goldsmiths’ Hall, London. His skills
stem from his apprenticeship at Kulta Keskus, a commissioned jewellers in
Ascot, where he learnt about the lost wax process and other related jewel
craft skills.

Robin and Imogen bought Shanklin Jewellers three years ago, which is the
second oldest jewellers on the IOW, established in 1880. It’s original
features reflect the creative handmade skills of Robin’s work as an
artisan – a skill not often seen today. We offer a bespoke service for
commissined items in 18carat gold and platinum.

Imogen is a Diamond Member of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain
and has the knowledge to colour and clarity grade the diamond parcels used
in their designs and explain the certificated diamonds used in their
commissions. Imogen is very much part of the creative process, her
pragmatism supports Robin’s artistic flare, both at the workbench and with
the customer’s initial consultation.

The use of the lost wax process can be a major part of a commissioned piece. However, there are other options for making a piece of jewellery, which can be explained by this knowledgable husband and wife team. Other services include, ring sizing, stone replacement and rhodium plating which are all carried out in our on-site work shop.
