Dennis Fairweather - Sculptures and Ceramics
Dennis Fairweather and his wife Sue moved to the Isle of Wight 2 years ago and it is evident, when you look at the new style of his work, that he has been influenced by the islands beauty and it’s surroundings.
Before the move Dennis was focusing on his Fairweather Sculpture (www.fairweathersculpture.com) business. The pieces Dennis made then and still makes to order, are solid bronze resin garden sculptures, with skilfully applied patinations. The surface being 80% bronze reacts very well with the atmosphere and does change over time, but can be polished back to show the bronze highlights if required.
The sculptures are completely frost proof, making them suitable for the garden all year round. They have been purchased from all over the world and have been exhibited at the RHS Chelsea Flower and Hampton Court Flower shows for over 15 years.
Since moving to the Isle of Wight in 2007, Dennis has been inspired by the beautiful coastal surroundings and has returned to making original ceramic pieces. The shore birds are standing on driftwood collected from local beaches, as are the mackerel. This seaside range also includes Ibis, Divers and owls. Each piece is built from stoneware clay, which is then painted with slips and oxides and then fired to a high temperature. The bills are hand carved.
You can find these pieces from a wide selection of Island galleries including the Yarmouth Gallery, the Old Studio Ventnor and Quay Arts Centre Newport. You can also order directly from Dennis from his websites too.
